College coaches rely on elite soccer academies playing in MLS Next, ECNL, and the US soccer youth system to identify talented players. This system is expensive, and many Black and Latino boys and girls do not have the financial means to pay club dues, buy equipment, or travel to attend showcase events where they can attract the attention of college coaches.

College coaches prioritize players from these well-established programs, while thousands of equally talented Black and Latino players are ignored because they lack the means to be seen.
